Widely used & effective for resiratory tract infections and otitis media because of its activity against haemophilus influenzae and atypical pathogens.
Having singnificantly higher completion rates than erythromycin preferable to erythromycin in outbreaks of pertussis.
A 3-day redimen of azithromycin is as effective and as safe as a 5-10 day regimen of co-amoxiclav in the treatment of respiratory tract infections.
Azithromycin given as an oral therapy once daliy for three days is as safe and effective as amoxicillin/clavulanic acid given thrice daliy for ten days in the treatment of otitis media.
